How To: Remove Shellac

with 2 comments

Shellac may just be one of the best beauty inventions. There is something about looking down at my nails and seeing them shine back at me, beaming for all the world to see. But I have found just two problems: 1) a girl who lives for polished nails cannot bear to wear the same colour for 2-3 weeks, 2) having to go to the salon to have the shellac removed seems like a waster of time and money. Since I do not Shellac often — I’m much to indecisive to settle on one lacquer colour a week — visiting the salon to have the polish removed just doesn’t seem viable. Here’s an at home solution to removing your Shellac DIY-style:

What You’ll Need:

  • nail polish remover
  • cotton pad, cut into six
  • tin foil
  • manicure stick/skewer

Simply cut the cotton pad into pieces large enough to cover your nail. Drench the cotton pad in nail polish remover, place on top of nail, and wrap end of finger in tin foil. Leave for 10+ minutes until removing tin foil and cotton. At this point the polish should be completely separated, you’ll even see that the top coat has separated from the colour. If the polish is not flaking off, leave cotton and tin foil on for a few minutes longer. Use the manicure stick to rub off any remnants of Shellac polish.

the science of procrastination.

with 2 comments

definition: procrastination refers to the deferment of actions or tasks to a later time.

cause: a mechanism for coping with anxiety associated with starting or completing a task (in most cases homework)

determinants: must be counterproductive, needless and delaying

symptoms: stress, guilt, loss of personal productivity, disapproval by others

this should have been my major.  it would appear that in the busiest and most crucial times of my life I find myself procrastinating more than ever.

take today for example.  I should be doing my final paper of the term and making study notes… it is now quarter to eight and i have yet to start on my school work.  yes you might say I am useless, but really I think i have just been educating myself in a different way, enhancing my knowledge of random things.  so in the end I may not be able to perfect my skills in strategic management, but I will be able to offer many ice breaking topics and many maybe-less-than-helpful facts about an array of topics.

A+ in procrastination

D+ in business administration…oops!

now to help you in your quest of fulfilling a day filled with nothingness, I have made you a list of things to do while procrastinating (one of my many talents is list making, which could only be perfected when putting off real work)

  1. lie in bed and listen to music
  2. iChat – a great way to help others become just as useless as you!
  3. Google Reader – just keep refreshing the page and a new blog post is bound to pop up eventually or go HERE
  4. YouTube – my fave video of the day
  5. clean…this will help with concentration, an organized room makes for an organized mind.
  6. eat, bake or cook
  7. make lists (christmas lists, to-do’s, grocery lists, “things I want to be when I grow up” lists)
  8. make big plans – imagination is key.  I like to think about adventures I can go on in the future

please feel free to add to the list, cause i’m getting a little bored and just looking at my textbook is a little daunting.  I hope this blog post helped you in perfecting this science… enjoy!
